AcuFin Service Timelines: How Long Does Each Step Take?

Realistic timeframes for company incorporation, licence applications, trust establishment, bank account opening and ongoing compliance.

One of the most common questions AcuFin receives from prospective clients is straightforward: how long will this take? The answer depends on the structure, the jurisdiction and the completeness of the documentation provided. This article sets out realistic timeframes for each of AcuFin's core services so that clients can plan with confidence.

GBL Incorporation

Incorporating a Global Business Corporation in Mauritius typically takes four to six weeks from the date AcuFin receives a complete KYC file. This period covers company registration with the Registrar of Companies, the FSC licence application process, appointment of resident directors, and opening of the corporate bank account.

The incorporation itself can be completed in a matter of days. The bulk of the timeline is consumed by the FSC review and bank account opening, which run in parallel. AcuFin manages both processes simultaneously to minimise the overall timeframe.

Trust and Foundation Setup

A Mauritius trust can typically be established within two to four weeks. This includes drafting the trust deed, appointing the trustee, settling the initial assets, and ensuring compliance with the FSC's requirements for licensed trustees.

Foundation establishment follows a similar timeline of two to four weeks. The process involves drafting the foundation charter, appointing the foundation council, registering the foundation with the Corporate and Business Registration Department, and establishing the required governance framework.

Both structures can be established more quickly if the client provides complete documentation at the outset. AcuFin maintains standardised templates where appropriate, which reduces the time required for document preparation without compromising quality.

Fund Setup

Establishing a fund in Mauritius is a more complex undertaking, and timelines reflect that complexity. The realistic timeframe is three to six months from concept to operational readiness, depending on the fund structure, the investment strategy, and the regulatory approval required.

The process involves selecting the appropriate fund structure (whether a Collective Investment Scheme, Closed-End Fund, Expert Fund, or Professional Collective Investment Scheme), appointing the necessary service providers, preparing the offering documentation, submitting the regulatory application to the FSC, and completing the post-approval setup including bank accounts and custody arrangements.

Bank Account Opening

Bank account opening in Mauritius typically takes four to eight weeks. The timeline is determined primarily by the bank's own internal due diligence process, which AcuFin cannot control. What AcuFin can do is ensure that the account application is submitted with a complete and well-prepared documentation package, which significantly reduces the risk of delays or requests for additional information.

AcuFin maintains relationships with several reputable Mauritian banks and can recommend the most appropriate institution based on the client's business profile, transaction patterns and jurisdictional considerations.

FSC Licence Applications

FSC licence applications for activities such as forex brokerage, VASP operations, fund management or investment advisory services generally take three to six months. The FSC conducts a thorough review of the application, including the fitness and propriety of key persons, the adequacy of the compliance framework, the business plan and financial projections, and the corporate governance arrangements.

AcuFin prepares and submits the application on behalf of the client and manages all interactions with the FSC throughout the review process.

Ongoing Compliance Cycles

Once a structure is operational, ongoing compliance obligations follow established annual cycles. These include the preparation and filing of audited financial statements, annual returns with the Registrar of Companies, FSC regulatory filings where applicable, and ongoing AML/CFT obligations including periodic reviews and updates.

AcuFin manages these cycles proactively, providing clients with advance notice of upcoming deadlines and ensuring that all filings are completed on time.
